Words of Gratitude and my Back to Life Juice Recipe
Man, was I sick this week.
I was struggling with a nasty cold for some days already and thought I almost made it through when – BAM! – it hit me.
I got the flu, and you know it is the REAL flu when you can’t move, can’t eat, can’t bear reading, listening to music or watch the latest New Girl episode. The only thing you are capable of is lying in a dark room, sipping on a glass of water from time to time. That’s it.
This by itself is pretty ugly. But if you have a child then what the heck you do? Normally, as a Mum, you are not allowed to get sick. You have a 24/7 job to do and somehow you do it.
But this was different. There were these two days where I just couldn’t do anything, I couldn’t change a diaper, I couldn’t make breakfast or play hide and seek with a toddler. I just couldn’t.
I don’t want to complain here, believe me. The opposite is the case. Because all this showed me that I am a very very lucky girl actually. I have a husband and parents that are there in these moments to help me. I am so grateful I have such loving and caring people around me. Mum, Dad, Simon – YOU ROCK!
I am aware that there are a lot of parents out there, who aren’t as lucky as I am, who don’t have a partner around, no relatives near by and who have to go through this all by themselves. I have the deepest respect for these people and I honestly don’t have a clue how they manage this all on their own. They must have superpowers, for sure.
So, that said, I want to share with you my personal magic potion that got me back on my feet again, I call it the “back to life” juice.
You all know by now that I am big smoothie fan. But lately I have discovered juices for me, too. They are so awesome to give you instant energy because they don’t contain fibre and so the body has nothing to break down and all the lovely nutrients in your fruits and veggies can go right into the blood stream and do their good work.
You also know that I am a big fan of the green colored veggies in my smoothies and same is with the juices. The greener the better for me. This special mix you see on the pic was really doing wonders for me with my flu recovery. If the green taste is to strong for you up the apples or do an extra spritzer of lemon juice. I love this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Try this and you won’t need caffeine to wake you up.
Back to life juice recipe:
(try to buy organic, if you can’t be sure to peel the fruits and veggies)
a handful of lamb’s lettuce or any other leafy greens (Kale, spinach, chard, etc.)
3 stalks of celery
half a cucumber
a third of a fennel bulb
a lemon, peeled (!)
Juice everything and enjoy. If you don’t have a juicer you could also put everything in a strong blender with some water, blend it up and strain it through a sieve to get rid of the fibre.
Now I am curious what natural remedies to you use to get yourself back on your feet after a nasty cold or flu. Leave a comment below.
